The tilted windows and uneven chimneys give this little black house a pleasingly unsettled look. Warm light through its windows keeps the tiny building readable even when the surrounding shelf falls into shadow.

Before you start making
Which project needs neither a 3D printer nor programming?
The paper lantern. Its tutorial uses Inkscape, a drawing program, to create the panels before cutting and assembly. You’ll still need to make the decorative design; the body templates don’t supply it.
Do the paper-lantern downloads include the bat and pumpkin designs?
No. The A4 blank body template and US Letter blank body template give you the lantern’s structure. Jess’s tutorial explains creating the decorative panels in Inkscape; they aren’t a ready-to-cut copy of the photographed designs.
Can I put a real candle inside the lantern or haunted house?
No. Use an LED tea light only in both the paper lantern and the printed house. A candle flame doesn’t belong inside either project.
Can the pumpkin and hand run from a USB charger?
Their guides support USB power. The pumpkin guide specifies a USB phone charger and a micro-B cable. Follow each creator’s setup for connecting and positioning the electronics; don’t assume the coffin illusion uses the same power arrangement.
Can I use a foam pumpkin for the shallow-carved effect?
The pumpkin guide favors real gourds for this effect, which leaves a thin wall for the light to shine through. Choose the pumpkin and carving method with that light path in mind before starting the electronics.
