Sherwin-Williams Alabaster: walls, trim or cabinets?
Start with the white thing that is staying. One simple edge test shows where Alabaster can look soft, where it may look too creamy, and what to sample before you paint.

Match the edge to the job. Clean beside the trim: test Alabaster on the walls. Clean beside the counter, tile, sink, appliance, or window: test it on trim or cabinets.
Clean at every fixed white: test it across the walls, trim, and ceiling. If an edge looks yellow or dull, keep Alabaster off that surface.
Look where the two colors touch. That line tells you more than two loose chips.

The small shift can feel soft and layered. It can also make Alabaster look creamier than it did on the loose chip.

If the trim stays clean and the wall feels softly warmer, Alabaster can work on the walls. If the wall looks stained, stop.
Soft is useful. Dirty-looking means the two whites are pulling apart.

Alabaster can soften trim or cabinets beside a sage, blue, beige, or deeper neutral wall.
In a kitchen, put the sample under the counter edge and beside the backsplash. Those finishes sit closer to the cabinets than the wall does.
Both lines must work. One good wall cannot rescue a bad counter edge.

This is the quietest route. There is no bright white line around every door and window.
Use Alabaster across the room, then change the finish for the surface. Added shine catches more light, so the same color may look a little lighter on trim or doors.

Walls, trim, doors, and ceiling can share Alabaster when the fixed whites still look clean.
One paint name does not erase a fixed white edge.

Its LRV is about 82. A high LRV means the paint sends a lot of available light back into the room. It does not mean the color will look pure white.

look at what is beside it.
A blue-white counter can push Alabaster warmer. A warm bulb can do the same. Move the board to one more edge before you blame the paint.
Leave the cleaner white on trim if the wall still looks soft.
Use Alabaster on cabinets beside a colored wall.
Remove the second paint white if the fixed finishes agree.
Stop when the counter, tile, or appliance will not settle.

- Make a second-finish board when needed.
- Test at every repeated white edge.
- Look in morning, daylight, and lamplight.
- Pick walls, woodwork, all three, or stop.
Do not hide a bad white-on-white edge with more decor. The line will still be there after the cushions arrive.
